Finding Palace Theatre Georgetown, Texas
The local favorite and one of the only theaters in Georgetown, Texas to see a play, is the Palace Theatre. The theatre is well known for its grand Springer Stage. However, it also has an additional theatre called the Playhouse Stage.
The Playhouse Stage, located on W 8th Street, performs only plays. Dedicated to creating a special experience for the audience, they utilize the space around them.
Nearby both theatres, guests can find several options to dine out before or after the show. Recommended restaurants on the square include Wildfire, Roots, Juliet Italian Kitchen and Goodfolks. For drinks, stop by Mesquite Creek Outfitters for beer and hard cider or The Golden Rule for craft cocktails.

The Springer Stage
My first impressions of the Palace Theatre in Georgetown, Texas was quickly very positive. When approaching the building, I love the high contrast of black and white next to its neighboring businesses. The vintage and authentic marquee lights up and highlights the current or future show. The building is nearly 100 years old and stands out as a spectacle. With bright lights and bold red doors next to the box office, it’s quickly an eyecatcher and appears to be well preserved.
Originally opening its doors to show silent films, this historic venue has now evolved to host a variety of play productions and musicals. With seating for almost 300 guests, including a balcony for a bird’s-eye view, the Springer Stage still manages to provide a captivating experience.
While seeing the show, “A Bright Star,” there was a 3-person band in the corner of the stage. The addition of a live band for certain productions quickly enhances the overall experience for their guests.
Local talent of all ages come together and bring characters to life with passion and skill. One of my favorite performances on the Springer Stage was “The Newsies.” Seeing all the children put on a professional performance was extremely impressive.
The Springer Stage is in the small town of Georgetown, but absolutely stands out among theaters Austin residents should visit. This blend of history and talent ensures every visit to the Springer Stage is memorable and entertaining.
Playhouse Stage
Located down the street from the popular Springer Stage, the Playhouse Stage offers a more intimate setting for theater enthusiasts. This smaller venue, used exclusively for plays, seats 75 guests. During performances, actors move around the audience, creating a unique experience. Using the space of the room and not just the stage, it makes the viewers feel as though they are part of the scene. This unique setup provides a distinctive theater experience, different from traditional theaters for plays.
While watching the performance “A Funny Little Thing Called Love,” an actor suddenly appeared next to me among the audience as he entered the scene. The room then focused their attention away from the stage as he slowly made his way to the stage where the other characters spoke to him.
It’s the intimate nature of the Playhouse Stage makes it a favorite among those seeking a more engaging and interactive performance. The setting enhances the storytelling, making each play more impactful.
If you’re not in the area, start researching your local theaters for plays that captivate your interest and will also help support local performance artist.
