Where is Big Bend National Park
Big Bend National Park, located on the US-Mexico border in West Texas, is a must-visit destination offering stunning desert landscapes. As you leave behind the big cities, the highways become long, winding, and surrounded by wide-open spaces. The scenery transitions from rolling hills or grasslands to the beauty of the West Texas desert where the sky feels enormous, stretching endlessly in every direction.
The area is very remote and it’s very important to download GPS directions while you have you a signal. On your way towards the park, grab food and refuel any chance you get. You’ll pass through small, isolated towns like Alpine or Marathon about an hour away from the park.
One of the most popular places to see outside the park is the “ghost town” Terlingua. Be sure to check out Terlingua Trading Post, the Far Flung Outdoor Center for kayaking and rafting, and the Starlight Theatre that’s a local restaurant and saloon.
Unique Lodging Near Big Bend National Park
If you are wanting to stay inside the National Park at a campground, make arrangements at the Chisos Basin Campground. It a beautiful place for vibrant sunrises and sunsets as the sun hits the towering peaks. Because the National Park is so isolated, accommodations for places to stay are limited, so plan ahead. Consider making reservations at some of these amazing options below.
