One of the highlights of Krause Springs Austin is the beautiful natural spring-fed, concreted swimming pool. It’s no wonder that locals and tourists return year after year to cool off here. The beautiful and peaceful landscape easily makes it one of the best swimming pools in Texas.
The water in the pool is sourced from the numerous springs on the property, providing a refreshing swimming experience. The pool itself is a decent size, allowing plenty of room for visitors to spread out and enjoy. The water temperatures average around a cool 70 degrees year-round. During the hotter months, it’s one of the best places in Texas for spring break or the summer.
When visiting the swimming pool, I took full advantage of the diving board and jumped in. It’s honestly the only way to get used to the cold water. One thing I was pleasantly surprised about is how well the swimming pool is kept up and clean looking. There are other swimming pools in Austin, Texas made from spring water that has a lot of algae built up. The cleanliness made the experience at the swimming pool at Krause Springs worth the trip out of the city.
Swim Below a Waterfall
For those seeking a more unique experience, swimming below the waterfall at Krause Springs is a must. The 15-to-20-foot waterfall cascades down into the swimming area. It creates a special and scenic place I didn’t expect to see in Texas.

Swimming Hole
The swimming hole at Krause Springs is another fantastic spot for cooling off and having fun. Towering cypress trees provide shade next to the water with areas behind the trees to lie in the sun. There’s also a rope swing you should absolutely try.

Krause Springs has been owned by the Krause family for almost 70 years and is a cherished local treasure. When the summer heat starts producing triple digit temperatures, cooling off in the springs provides a beautiful escape. Krause Springs is one of the great places to visit in June when kids get out of school. The friendly atmosphere and refreshing water will make you want to continue visiting throughout the summer.
It is open to the public during the warmer months and closes in the winter. Typically, the property closes from November to February. Make sure you check their website for updates before your visit. The property has 32 springs that feed into the man-made pool and the natural swimming hole. They ensure a continuous flow of clean, refreshing water.
Rules to Follow and Tips
Visitors should be aware of a few important rules to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.
- No glass containers
- No pets (Service animals are allowed on property but MUST be approved by management.)
- Ride shares like Uber and Lyft will NOT pick up guests at Krause Springs
- Snacks and drinks are allowed on property
- There are no lifeguards on duty
- Bring water shoes, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and a change of clothes.
- Tubes are acceptable to use in the swimming hole. There are none for rent, but there is a air pump available to use.
- Consider bringing your bike and checking out the nearby bike paths
- Fishing is allowed ONLY on the lower part of the property next to Little Cypress Creek.
My Personal Review
Whether you’re planning a family vacation, a spring break adventure, or just a day trip, Krause Springs should be at the top of your list. It does get crowded in the summer, especially on weekends. If you can get there early or during the week there will be less crowds.
Make sure you bring a change of clothes when you visit. There are bathrooms with a small changing room near the swimming pool. Getting down to the waterfall and swimming hole is only accessible by a narrow metal staircase and it is very steep.
When getting in and out of the swimming hole, it is bit slippery from the algae on the rocks. Be careful getting in and out of the water, and I would highly recommend water shoes with good traction.
Overall, I had a fantastic time visiting Krause Springs. While enjoying the cold water next to a waterfall, it is undoubtedly one of the best places in Texas for a quick family vacation and getaway destination. Pack your swimsuit, sunscreen and possibly your camping gear, and head out to this incredible vacation spot in Texas for families and friends.
